Cotton-picking is a doublespeak to communicate outrage or disappointment. To cotton to something is to fancy it or to go to a comprehension of it (the expressing can likewise be ââ¬Å"cotton on toâ⬠), and to cotton up to somebody is to compliment. In the mean time, to be in high or tall cotton is to be fruitful (from the idea of a cotton grower strolling among huge plants). Colored in-the-fleece is a descriptive word meaning ââ¬Å"set in oneââ¬â¢s ways,â⬠from the act of kicking the bucket fleece filaments before they are spun into string with the goal that the color is increasingly solid. To pull the fleece over someoneââ¬â¢s eyes (a reference to a wig made of fleece) is to delude them, to envelop them with cotton fleece is to be overprotective (with the meaning of wrapping up somebody as though they were a child), and to live in cotton fleece is to carry on with an ensured life. To woolgather, in the interim, is to stare off into space; the expression originates from the apparently capricious demonstration of gathering bits of fleece on hedges and fences. ââ¬Å"All fleece and a yard wideâ⬠and ââ¬Å"all fleece and no shoddyâ⬠both mean a decent individual or something of high caliber. Different articulations including fleece, including ââ¬Å"all cry and no woolâ⬠ââ¬Å"great cry and little wool,â⬠and ââ¬Å"more cry than wool,â⬠suggest a lot of consideration given to something of little essentialness. ââ¬Å"Go hellfire for leatherâ⬠or ââ¬Å"go recklessly determined twisted for leatherâ⬠implies ââ¬Å"act quicklyâ⬠or ââ¬Å"act recklessly.â⬠(The cowhide being referred to initially alluded to a seat, with the thought of riding a pony rapidly or carelessly.) ââ¬Å"Tough as (shoe) leatherâ⬠alludes allegorically to physical grit or actually to something looking like calfskin, as a cut of meat. Rugged may portray something likened to calfskin in appearance or surface, as to skin roughened by introduction to the components, and somebody who is cowhide rushed has an uproarious or solid voice, while the expression ââ¬Å"as ever trod shoe leatherâ⬠is an increasingly vivid method of saying ââ¬Å"as ever livedâ⬠or ââ¬Å"as ever strolled the earthâ⬠following a commendation (or slandering comment) so as to escalate it. Silky depicts something looking like ribbon, for example, a dew-soaked bug catching network or a sensitive covering. To bind isn't just to string or trim yet additionally to include a shading, season, or other quality to something or in any case improve it. Satiny depicts liquid or smooth development or surface, and ââ¬Å"smooth as silkâ⬠portrays a person or thing sensitive in mien or surface. The articulation ââ¬Å"You canââ¬â¢t make a silk satchel out of a sowââ¬â¢s earâ⬠implies that something refined can't be delivered from unpleasant materials, while ââ¬Å"silk-loading districtâ⬠suggests a well-to-do neighborhood, from the way that at once, just the affluent could bear the cost of such things. To hit the silk, in the mean time, is to parachute from a plane (a suggestion to the material utilized for the parachute). Silken likewise proposes perfection. In the mean time, the smooth, rich surface of velvet, which is made of one of a few textures, is proposed with the descriptor smooth. Need to improve your English quickly a day? Amen, MD, is a child and adult psychiatrist, a nuclear brain imaging specialist, and a New York Times bestselling author. His books include the groundbreaking Healing ADD: The Breakthrough Program That Allows You to See and Heal the 7 Types of ADD, which was published in 2013. Dr. Amen is also the founder of eight Amen Clinics across the United States. At these clinics, psychiatrists use single-photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT) brain imaging to identify the type of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) a patient has, enabling them to receive targeted treatment. A SPECT scan shows how the blood flows through the brain. The Standard Method of Diagnosing ADHD The standard means of assessing and diagnosing ADHD used by mental health professionals in the United States is to use the criteria established in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM), which identifies three presentations of ADHD: Predominantly inattentive presentation Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive presentationCombined presentation Dr. Daniel Amens Approach to ADD Diagnosis Using SPECT scans on tens of thousands of patients, Dr. Amen has identified seven types of ADD. Dr. Amen uses the term ADD, rather than ADHD, as he feels ADD is more reflective of the condition. When a person has been diagnosed with an ADD type, Dr. Amen uses a combination of prescription medication, supplements, and lifestyle changes to treat the condition. Each type of ADD has its own treatment recommendations. Neuroimaging in Psychiatry Functional neuroimaging, such as SPECT scanning, is considered a helpful tool for researchers. It has been invaluable in understanding the neurocircuitry (activity in the brain) of various psychiatric conditions. However, mainstream psychiatrists do not generally believe they are a valid technique to use for regular clinical diagnosis. Critics of Dr. Amens claim that he uses the scans to support the marketing of his procedures and products. 7 Types of ADD According to Dr. Daniel Amen Dr. Amens particular ADHD sub-types and his package of recommendations are not broadly established and reflect his particular biases. With these caveats, here are Dr. Amenâs types of ADD and his treatment recommendations: Type 1: Classic ADD Symptoms include being inattentive, distractible, disorganized, hyperactive, restless, and impulsive. Procrastination can also be an issue. People with Classic ADD have reduced blood flow in the brain area of the prefrontal cortex, cerebellum, and basal ganglia. The basal ganglia help produce dopamine. The goal of the treatment is to increase dopamine levels in the following ways: Either using stimulant medication, such as Adderall or Concerta, or using stimulating supplements, such as Rhodiola, green tea, or ginseng. The amino acid L-tyrosine is also used, as its a building block of dopamine.Exercise is encouraged because it boosts dopamine.A fish oil supplement thats higher in omega-3 fatty acids docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). For example, a 60:40 ratio is recommended.A diet thats higher in protein and lower in carbohydrates is encouraged. Type 2: Inattentive ADD Symptoms include being inattentive and easily distracted (but not hyperactive), sluggish, and slow-moving, with low motivation. People with Inattentive ADD are often described as space cadets, daydreamers, and couch potatoes. This type is more common in girls than boys and is often diagnosed later in life because these people dont have behavior problems.?? People with Inattentive ADD have reduced activity in the prefrontal cortex as well as low levels of dopamine. Treatment is the same as for Type 1. Type 3: Overfocused ADD Overfocused ADD includes Classic ADD symptoms, plus trouble shifting attention, frequently getting stuck in loops of negative thoughts or behaviors, obsessive, excessive worrying, inflexibility, and frequent oppositional and argumentative behavior. People with Overfocused ADD have a deficiency of serotonin and dopamine. The goal of treatment is to increase both of these neurotransmitters, the nervous systemâs chemical messengers. Dr. Amen explains that because people with this ADD type become more worried and anxious when taking stimulant medication, he tries supplements first. He prescribes medications only if supplements arent effective. Treatment includes: Supplements are used to boost dopamine, such as L-tryptophan. 5-Hydroxytryptophan, a naturally occurring amino acid known as 5-HTP, is used as an antidepressant. Other supplements include saffron and inositol, which increase focus and mental clarity.Antidepressant medication examples are Effexor, Pristiq, or Cymbalta. Neurofeedback, a form of biofeedback, is also recommended. It teaches people to regulate their brain function.People who have this ADD type do not do well on a high protein diet as it can prompt mean behavior. Type 4: Temporal Lobe ADD This type includes Classic ADD symptoms plus being irritable, quick-tempered and aggressive, and having dark thoughts, mood instability, and mild paranoia. People with this type might have visual changes and learning and memory problems may be present. People with Temporal Lobe ADD have irregularities in their temporal lobes and less activity in the prefrontal cortex part of the brain. The goal of treatment is to soothe neuronal activity and stop nerve cells from over-firing or firing unpredictably. Treatment includes: The amino acid gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) to help to calm the nerve cells.A magnesium supplement helps with anxiety and irritability.Anticonvulsant medications can help stabilize moods. Gingko or vinpocetine can assist with learning and memory issues. A ketogenic diet, which is a diet that is higher in protein, might be recommended. Type 5: Limbic ADD This type includes Classic ADD symptoms plus chronic low-level sadness, but not depression. Negativity, glass-half-empty syndrome, low energy, frequent feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, and low self-esteem are other symptoms of this type. People with Limbic ADD have excessive activity in the limbic section of the brain, which is where moods are controlled. They have reduced activity in the prefrontal cortex both when relaxing and focusing on a task. Treatment includes: DL-phenylalanine (DLPA), L-tyrosine, and SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine) are the most effective supplements. An anti-depressant, Wellbutrin or imipramine, might be prescribed.Exercise, fish oil, and an appropriate diet are also recommended. An elimination diet, where dairy, sugar, wheat, and corn are eliminated from the diet for three weeks, will help to determine if the person has these food sensitivities. Type 6: Ring of Fire ADD This is a more extreme version of Classic ADD, plus being extremely distractible, angry, irritable, and overly sensitive to noise, light, clothes, and touch. People with this type are often inflexible, extremely verbal, oppositional, and have cyclic moodiness. People with Ring of Fire ADD have an overactive brain. There are excessive amounts of activity in the cerebral cortex and other areas of the brain. Treatment includes: Beginning with an elimination diet if it appears a food allergy might be present. Stimulants alone could make symptoms increase. GABA, 5-HTP, and L-tyrosine supplements help to increase GABA and serotonin levels.Medications that might be prescribed include anticonvulsants and blood pressure medications like guanfacine or clonidine to help reduce hyperactivity. Type 7: Anxious ADD Anxious ADD includes Classic ADD symptoms plus feeling anxious and tense, physical stress symptoms like a headache and stomachache, freezing when in situations that cause anxiety, and anticipating the worst. People with Anxious ADD have high levels of activity in the basal ganglia, which aids in making dopamine. This differs from the majority of the other ADD types, which have low activity in this part of the brain. The goal of treatment is to help with relaxation and increase GABA and dopamine levels. Treatment includes: Supplements that have a calming effect, like L-theanine, relora, magnesium, and holy basil.Stimulants taken on their own can cause more anxiety. However, helpful medications to lower anxiety are the tricyclic antidepressants imipramine or desipramine. Neurofeedback can help lower anxiety and calm the prefrontal cortex. Having More Than One Type of ADD Is Common Its possible to have more than one of these types of ADD. For example, a common combination is overfocused, limbic, and anxious types. Dr. Amen believes that understanding the distinctions and complexities of each of these seven subtypes allows for more effectively diagnosing and treatment for children and adults with ADHD. A Word From Verywell Always consult your doctor before making any changes to your own treatment. He or she needs to be aware of every supplement and medication youre taking in order to be alert for potential interactions or problems with other conditions you may have. canmetirac1971http://www.blogger.com/profile/08198283308070975593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167480204785288457.post-74351553428263301552020-05-21T11:57:00.001-07:002020-05-21T11:57:03.135-07:00The Ancient Myths about Athena In his mythology (The Age of Fable: Vols. I II: Stories of Gods and Heroes. 1913), Thomas Bulfinch uses the Roman name Minerva for the Greek goddess Athena. Chapters from Bulfinch that Feature Athena: Chapter 14Arachne and the Weaving Contest With AthenaThe beginning of this chapter details Athenas skills, her special connection with Athens, and her birth from the head of her father Zeus. The chapter goes on to describe a contest between a mortal woman, Arachne, and Athena. It follows with another challenge made by a mortal against a goddess, but the goddess is not Athena.Chapter 15MedusaBulfinch has already identified Athena in the previous chapter, so in this one, Athena is introduced as the goddess challenged by Medusa to a beauty contest. Regardless of who was more beautiful, Athena had to punish Medusa, which she did by turning her into a monster. Then, when the hero Perseus goes off to slay the monster, Athena comes to his assistance by lending him her shield -- the one he uses as a mirror so he can decapitate without being turned to stoneChapter 30Odysseus and AthenaIn this chapter, Bulfinch is describing the adventures of Odysseus. Odysseus has returned to Ithaca but doesn t recognize it until Athena in disguise tells him where he is. The chapter describes Odysseus return to his home where he finds and eventually slays the suitors who have been harassing his wife. Elsewhere in Bulfinch, Athena plays minor roles: Chapter 16Athena invents thunderbolts and deals with the winged horse Pegasus.Chapter 20Theseus blames Athena for abandoning Ariadne and sets up the Panathenaea to honor her.Chapter 2Here Athena helps Prometheus steal fire to give to mankind.Chapter 19Athena and Hermes accompany Hercules to the Underworld.Chapter 7In this chapter, Bulfinch invents a conversation between Aphrodite and her son in which she names Athena as one who defies her. canmetirac1971http://www.blogger.com/profile/08198283308070975593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167480204785288457.post-85325865769161280482020-05-06T23:16:00.001-07:002020-05-06T23:16:10.735-07:00The Battle Of The River - 1246 Words The river was an important avenue of approach for the Union army to reach and gain control of Vicksburg. The Loess Bluffs bordering the Mississippi River provided excellent observation positions for Confederate artillery to fire upon any enemy approaching via the river. Ships were particularly vulnerable to their fire because of an oxbow north of the cityââ¬â¢s waterfront where ships were forced to slow down to make the treacherous turn. The river approach afforded no opportunities for cover and concealment. The Confederate positions at Fort Hill and South Fort had clear fields of fire regarding approaching gunboats that afforded them a great advantage. The oxbow proved a challenging obstacle for Union approach, and was considered in the design and placement of artillery positions by the Confederates at Fort Hill and the river batteries along the waterfront. The Confederates placed additional obstacles in the form of explosive mines within the waters of the river and canal to the north and south of the city. The U.S.S. Cairo sunk in the Yazoo River Canal due to one of these mines during the winter of 1862 while on a mission to clear the river of mines and rid the channel of Confederate batteries. The city of Vicksburg in itself was the key terrain. This fortified city was positioned to protect the Mississippi River, and without taking Vicksburgâ⬠¦the outcome of the Civil War would have completely different. Mother-in-laws generally view their daughters-in-law with suspicion and are not able to tolerate their mistakes. Is there a psychological explanation for the mother-in-law type of behavior? The mother might have an overwhelming sense of responsibility for her son. We will write a custom essay sample on Mother in law or any similar topic only for you Order Now She might be a woman with no clear boundaries. She allows her son to be the focal point of her life and does not have a clear understanding of his life. Such a woman will often be an unwelcome intruder into her sonââ¬â¢s life. There are other mother-in-laws who have the unnatural fear of losing their relationship with their son. A mother with this fear works hard at being what her son needs her to be. This makes her less honest and fearful. There are other mothers who think itââ¬â¢s their duty to protect their son from other bad people and sometimes, this might even include his father. This gives her a false sense of importance. There are women who never outgrow the idea that their son is a grown up man now. Such women tend to be over possessive mothers in law who continue to baby their son and even smother him with sweetness whether he likes it or not (Sadasivan, 2006). These abnormal traits in a mother in law can lead to conflicts with the daughter in law. It is possible that an aggressive mother-in-law who has difficulty in coping with her sonââ¬â¢s wife may be suffering from Sons Detachment Disorder (SDD). The mother finds it difficult to detach herself from her son and allow him to live and independent life. Because of this attachment, she feels the need to control her daughter-in-law and any resistance by her is viewed with hatred and anger. Control, hate, and anger are the three main qualities of this disorder. Every human being desires freedom and in any relationship the threat to freedom is the greatest danger. In the case of mothers-in-law, there is a desire to control and this affects the freedom of the younger ones.à When there is an overwhelming desire to control, mothers are not willing to let go of their sons even when they get married. Mothers try to make decisions for their sons even after their marriages and control them by keeping track of their expenditure patterns, where they are going, what they are wearing and advising them even in matters such as where to buy a house. Many mothers feel more in control when they are able to predict the behavior of others and when others meet their expectations. Hatred and anger are often signs of insecurity. Here, the mothers might have a feeling that their sons are leaving them for another woman and this arouses a lot of hatred and anger towards her sonââ¬â¢s wife. This is more compounded when the mother in law also happens to be a widow. Such anger and hatred can cause destruction not only to their sons and wives but also to her. Sometimes, the problem may lie with a daughter-in-lawââ¬â¢s perception of her mother in law. When a woman gets married, she needs to cope with a new family with new rules. She often fears her mother in law even before knowing her because of her exposure to the image of a mother in law as evil personified in the media. A mother-in-law is often depicted as a dragon personified in TV serials and novels. Due to this stereotyping of mother-in-laws, the sonââ¬â¢s wife enters her new life with a lot of doubt, anxiety and worry. In this case, even a small remark by her mother-in-law will be seen in an enlarged dimension. She might be so wary of her that she does not communicate much with her mother-in-law. This can lead to a huge gap between the two women and lead to mother-in-law based conflicts. In this case itââ¬â¢s easy for the mother in law to judge her incommunicative daughter in law as a careless and destructive person. Another reason contributing to this conflict is that the mother in law might be too dependent on her son for her self-esteem needs. She needs him so that she might get a sense of importance. When she sees her son beginning to rely more on his wife, she feels upset and might start feigning sickness just to get the immediate attention from her son. Apart from the reasons cited above there might also be the case of mothers-in-law hating their daughters-in-law due to their personal reluctance to accept another woman into the household. There are likely to be differences based on status, education, age and culture between a married woman and her mother in law. These differences might make the connection between the two women more difficult. However, no problem is so complex that it cannot be solved. Every relationship needs some time, patience and understanding and trust to develop. Once developed, itââ¬â¢s possible that the two most important women in a manââ¬â¢s life might become the best of friends. Source: Sadasivan, Padma (2006). She had to skip the last couple months of her senioryear to have her baby, which put her behind a year and not able to graduate withher class. She had a hard time raising her son Allyn on her own for the firstfive years, but luckily after that she and Allyns dad started dating again, and ended up getting married. Seventeen years have now passed, and she is ahappily married certified public accountant. Jessica Inhoff is now experiencingthe responsibilities of being a teen mother, which she says, are endless.A normal day goes like this for Jessica; she gets up at 6, after being awakehalf the night (with her s ons wake up calls at 12:30 and 3 A.M.), and goes toschool. She goes through six rigorous classes and then leaves during seventhperiod to go home and take care of her son, so her mother can have a break frombabysitting. For the next three hours she changes diapers, cleans up his messes, plays with him, and does her homework all at the same time. At 5P.M, she makesthem dinner, and feeds both herself and her son. Then from then until 8:30, theytake a bath, play, and she gets him ready for bed. At 9P.M, hes usuallyfinally asleep. Now she has a little time to herself to do her homework andmaybe watch TV until she falls asleep, to wake up again at 12:30 and calm acrying baby. They then discuss how to make it better. The broadsheet article is slightly biased against America, as it says, police manhandled protestors. This is using the word manhandled meaning that they disapprove and may favour the opinion of the protestors. The tabloid article is not biased towards or against any of the sides at the world summit. I do think that the broadsheet is not unfair to be biased against America because, as it states in their article, America is the worlds number one polluter, yet they are not doing much about it. This is a proved, certifies fact and although the article contains many facts, it also has quite a few opinions as well. When they start with the sentence, the earth summit ended amid chaos and acrimony, they make it sound as if it is much worse than it actually is. Also, when it mentions how the police manhandled protestors, it could have just said something like , removed, or ushered out, but they chose to write manhandled which is much more aggressive, therefore being what they think really happened as opposed to what did happen. Also, it says in the second paragraph, Kofi Annan, the united national secretary general was left insisting that the $50 million (i 33 million) summit wad not a failure. They could have left the facts about the summits cost out of it but they kept it in to emphasize how much of a ridiculous amount of money was spent on it and how it was a failure. In fact, it seems it was a failure. Although they spent so much money on it, they only reached two firm targets; to reduce the number of people without access to sanitation by half by 2015 and setting up marine reserves by 2012. Others such as banning toxic chemicals and protecting fish stocks, have been heavily qualified. Other promises in the final agreement are repeats of previous declarations or represent a weakening of earlier deals. The headline or title of the article is, US critics jeer Powell as summit ends on discord. This sums up the way the protestors acted and how they did a mass walkout about the way they disapproved of what Powell was saying. Also they mention that summit ends in discord, which means that they sort of agree that it was a waste of time and that not enough was done at this years world summit because although there was something done, it was not enough, therefore agreeing with the protestors that it was a complete and utter waste of time and money. The sub-heading reads, Powells speech makes clear that Bush has written off the planet and has abdicated world leadership. The speech obviously does not actually say this in these words, it is just summing up what it is basically saying, it is merely unfortunate that this message is coming across, although this may be the broadsheet newspaper twisting what Powells speech says to make it to be what they want to hear, This is by far changing the truth but then keeping all the basic facts in place. canmetirac1971http://www.blogger.com/profile/08198283308070975593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167480204785288457.post-32434440090367875462020-03-01T13:49:00.001-08:002020-03-01T13:49:03.339-08:00St. Albert the Great QuotesSt. Albert the Great Quotes Known as Doctor Universalis (Universal Doctor) for the extraordinary depth of his knowledge and learning, Albertus Magnus wrote extensively on numerous subjects. Here are some words of ââ¬â¹wisdomà from a variety of his writings, as well as quotations that have been attributed to him. St. Albert the Great Quotes The aim of natural science is not simply to accept the statements of others, but to investigate the causes that are at work in nature. De Mineralibus (On Minerals) The beaver is an animal which has feet like those of a goose for swimming and front teeth like a dog, since it frequently walks on land. It is called the castor from castration, but not because it castrates itself as Isidore says, but because it is especially sought for castration purposes. As has been ascertained frequently in our regions, it is false that when it is bothered by a hunter, it castrates itself with its teeth and hurls its muskà away and that if one has been castrated on another occasion by a hunter, it raises itself up and shows that it lacks its musk. De Animalibus (On Animals). The Isidore Albertus refers to is Isidore of Seville, who wrote an encyclopedia that included descriptions of many animals, both real and fabulous. Do there exist many worlds, or is there but a single world? This is one of the most noble and exalted questions in the study of Nature. Attributed He took over anger to intimidate subordinates, and in time anger took over him. Attributed I shall not conceal a science that was before me revealed by the grace of God; I shall not keep it to myself, for being afraid of attracting its curse. What worth is a concealed science; what worth is a hidden treasure? The science I have learned without fiction I transmit with no regret. Envy upsets everything; an envious man cannot be fair before God. Every science and knowledge proceeds from God. Saying it proceeds from the Holy Ghost is a simple way of expressing oneself. No one can thus say Our Lord Jesus Christ without implying Son of God our Father, by work and grace of the Holy Ghost. In the same manner, this science cannot be separated from the One who has communicated it unto me. The Compound of Compounds. The science Albertus is talking about is alchemy. In studying nature we have not to inquire how God the Creator may, as He freely wills, use His creatures to work miracles and thereby show forth His power; we have rather to inquire what Nature with its immanent causes can naturally bring to pass. De Vegetabilibus (On Vegetation) Nature must be the foundation and model of science; thus Art works according to Nature in everything it can. Therefore, it is necessary that the Artist follows Nature and operates according to her. The Compound of Compounds Now it must be asked if we can comprehend why comets signify the death of magnates and coming wars, for writers of philosophy say so. The reason is not apparent, since vapor no more rises in a land where a pauper lives than where a rich man resides, whether he be king or someone else. Furthermore, it is evident that a comet has a natural cause not dependent on anything else; so it seems that it has no relation to someones death or to war. For if it be said that it does relate to war or someones death, either it does so as a cause or effect or sign. De Cometis (On Comets) The second great wisdom ... is the science of the judgments of the stars, which provides a link between natural philosophy and metaphysics ... No human science attains this ordering of the universe as perfectly as the judgment of the stars does. Speculum Astronomiae (The Mirror of Astronomy) This dumb ox will fill the world with his bellowing. Attributed. The quote was supposedly in response to students calling Thomas Aquinas a dumb ox because he tended to stay so quiet. To say that there is a soul in stones simply in order to account for their production is unsatisfactory: for their production is not like the reproduction of living plants, and of animals which have senses. For all these we see reproducing their own species from their own seeds; and a stone does not do this at all. We never see stones reproduced from stones ... because a stone seems to have no reproductive power at all. De Mineralibus Whoever believes that Aristotle was a god, must also believe that he never erred. But if one believes that Aristotle was a man, then doubtless he was liable to error just as we are. (East & Felice, 1996) It is more likely that a child would have a mental disorder or some physical defect and so on. Well, teen's pregnancy and then parenthood is a significant problem of modern society. It has an impact on the success in career of the teen mothers but they are considered a burden to the rest of the nation, because they need social help and also the help of the parents of these extremely young mothers in bearing the child. It is in case the mother chooses to leave a baby to herself, but another way out for them is quite widespread - they just give the child to an orphan-asylum. There is an opinion that a significant reason of this problem is the older men who have sex with young girls. But this has no proof yet, because too little study was made on the topic. (East & Felice, 1996) Nowadays a tendency to declining of birth rate amongst teens is observed and this is due to increase of condom use and to abstinence. Many sexually active teenagers use double contraceptive: condoms with birth control pills. Also delay in having a sex plays a great role in teens' birth control. But the government and teachers all over the country is against the policy of promoting the contraceptives and think that the only right and suitable policy is promoting of abstinence. Following this policy teachers should promote the delay of sexual life beginning, and should declare on the lessons that premarital sex leads not only to unintended pregnancy but also to the S.T.D. (Rodriguez & Moore, 1995) But on the other hand, experts are against such teaching behavior, saying that it is wrong approach to protect teens and that they wouldn't follow this advice. The problem is that there are always teenagers who would not listen to it and wouldn't remain abstinent. In this case a promotion of contraceptives is necessary as a way of avoiding pregnancy and different diseases. If a youngster will hear only about abstinence or only the negative information about sex and contraceptives he is more likely not to use any protection at all. (Rodriguez & Moore, 1995) There was one American study which has shown that the teens who had promised not to have a sex until marriage and then had broken the promise and have unprotected sex and then become pregnant. The paradox is that those who don't declare virginity stay virgin much longer than those who do promise it. There is also another opinion that promoting abstinence and contraceptives at the same time is mixed information. Because this confuses the teens and the do not understand the attitude of the society to this sphere of life: they should do it with protection or they shouldn't do it at all. (Bissell, 2000, p. 191) One more thing is that teen girls can't define sex appropriately: the think oral and anal sex is OK if they couldn't become pregnant this way, and consider themselves virgins as they don't have a vaginal sex. So the meanings are very chaotic. (Bissell, 2000, p. 191) In 1996 a bill was approved by which the government gave canmetirac1971http://www.blogger.com/profile/08198283308070975593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167480204785288457.post-28725126331434579782020-02-01T16:57:00.001-08:002020-02-01T16:57:03.459-08:00Social Media And Rational Social Conversations EssaySocial Media And Rational Social Conversations - Essay Example The rapid spread of such trending hashtags as #Gamergate portrays the extent of the damage potential of the various social media. The use of social media has therefore made it impossible for people to have rational conversations, especially on controversial matters as the discussion below portrays. Unlike the traditional media, social media lack gatekeepers. Gatekeeping is a vital aspect of media, which often serves to minimize harms caused by media contents. Televisions, radios and newspapers have professional editors and sub-editors who eliminate any form of errors thus enhancing rational communication of any form of the social issue including those that may elicit emotions (Hoffmeister 77). In case of live discussion on such media, the existence of a moderator ensures that the guests maintain rational conversations on air. Social media, on the other hand, lack moderators. This implies that they provide everyone in the entire society with an equal opportunity to share their views on a social issue. Maintaining rational thought on such emotional issues as sexism and racism among other forms of social discrimination is always difficult. The aggrieved persons will always feel the urge to retaliate. The social media provide effective platforms for such retaliation. The social media, for example, enables people to maintain a degree of anonymity while contributing to such vital social issues (Willard 54). Numerous users of the various social media use pseudonyms. This way, they can easily trade abusive words and even threaten others with actual violence without revealing their actual identity. Lack of actual identity on the social media, for example, enhances the development of irrational conversations on the numerous social media. Key among the functions of the media is agenda setting and information of the public opinion. The success of an opinion relies on the influence that the originators of such opinions enjoy. Theà mainstream media enjoys immense influence on their audiences since they have systematic ways of censuring their conversations.à canmetirac1971http://www.blogger.com/profile/08198283308070975593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167480204785288457.post-49305955797872388272020-01-24T13:21:00.001-08:002020-01-24T13:21:03.849-08:00William Blake Essay -- William Blake EssaysWilliam Blake William Blake is one of Englandââ¬â¢s most famous literary figures. He is remembered and admired for his skill as a painter, engraver, and poet. He was born on Nov. 28, 1757 to a poor Hosierââ¬â¢s family living in or around London. Being of a poor family, Blake received little in the way of comfort or education while growing up. Amazingly, he did not attend school for very long and dropped out shortly after learning to read and write so that he could work in his fatherââ¬â¢s shop. The life of a hosier however was not the right path for Blake as he exhibited early on a skill for reading and drawing. Blakeââ¬â¢s skill for reading can be seen in his understanding for and use of works such as the Bible and Greek classic literature. Interestingly enough, Blakeââ¬â¢s skill for writing went largely unnoticed throughout his life. One of his more famous works, Songs of Innocence, which he wrote and illustrated, with the help of his wife Catherine Boucher, sold slowly and for on ly a few shillings during his day. Today a copy of this work sells for thousands. While his skill as a writer was not recognized until after his passing, at the age of 14 his father noticed his skill as an artist and apprenticed him to James Basire, a noted Engraver of the time. After spending some time as an apprentice and student at the Royal Academy, Blake was able to set up his own engraving business at 27 Broad Street in London. This venture proved to be largely unsuccessful and from this point on, in the year 1784, at the age of 27, Blake's career as an engraver-poet-prophet began. In addition to being a poet and engraver Blake is described as a prophet because many of his works are themed with religion. There is evidence that Blake was instilled with his se... ...influence is absent from earth. This is why in line 16 the poemââ¬â¢s narrator is asking earth to "Turn away no more;" because until god and thus the earth pay attention to earth again the "starry floor" and "watry shore" which represent ration and chaos are going to continually struggle for power. The "break of day" in the last line is the coming of god when and if he does. Right now however according to Blake the earth is still fallen and this is why life is the experience that he describes it to be. Overall I think that Blakeââ¬â¢s point to be made is that life is not controlled by God and that he does not feel the presence of god in his life. If he were to accept god then he would have no way of explaining why his life is as it is. He tries to show people who disagree with this point their errors in thinking by using graphic images of reality as proof of his point. canmetirac1971http://www.blogger.com/profile/08198283308070975593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167480204785288457.post-85380542323033249372020-01-16T09:45:00.001-08:002020-01-16T09:45:04.437-08:00Outline of a Wedding ReceptionSpecial Occasion Wedding Role: Prayer OUTLINE Hook: Let us bow our heads and feel the presence of the Lord. At the same time, in her native Norway and in Scandinavian countries in general she is considered one of the most important experts on clinical nursing and the theory of care. Her works, opinions and views have played a considerable role in building the current Scandinavian theory and practice of nursing, which is noticeably different from Gilliganââ¬â¢s Anglo-American tradition. And there are reasons why her philosophy ââ¬â for she considers her approach to nursing and care to be nothing short of a full-fledged philosophy ââ¬â is so popular in her native country and starts to spread across the ocean (which was further facilitated by the publication of the English translation of her book Care and Vulnerability in 2006). One of the main goals and principles of Martinsenââ¬â¢s philosophy is the idea that care and caring should be an all-pervading sentiment not only in nursing but in medicine in general. In other words, she opposes the idea that nurses should care while doctors cure ââ¬â both parties should take equal parts in both processes. A new ââ¬Ëgazeââ¬â¢ should be developed, a new way for doctors to view their patients ââ¬â instead of a dehumanizing and analytical approach common in modern hospitals. That being said, it is one of the major ideas in Martinsenââ¬â¢s philosophy that the very concept of hospital should be reworked and altered. Hospital should be perceived as a dwelling ââ¬â a place where people are invited to dwell, live and spend time, a place where they feel just as home as they feel among the members of their family. Again, in this she opposes a traditional, production-based approach, in which hospitals are perceived and built as purely commercial buildings, places where patients are analyzed, processed and worked on to change them into something else. According to Martinsenââ¬â¢s view, these are not just two different approaches to a single problem ââ¬â they are two different approaches to life in general. Her approach views patients as human beings, as individuals with dignity in and of themselves. A traditional approach reduces patients to their diseases and conditions, takes away their humanity and sorts them into categories. The idea of compassion, the view that every human being is unique and deserves to be loved and cared for is what makes Kari Martinsen and her philosophy so popular now, when we see the resurgence of humanistic approaches in medicine ââ¬â and it is likely that we are going to hear more about her in the years to come. He is revered along with his contemporary, Tu Fu, as one of the two greatest Chinese poets. Li Poââ¬â¢s Early Life The great Chinese poet Li Po was born in 701 and grew up in western China, in Sichuan province near Chengdu. He was a gifted student, studied the classic Confucian works as well as other more esoteric and Romantic literature; by the time he was a young man he was an accomplished swordsman, practitioner of the martial arts and bon vivant. He began his wanderings in his mid-20s when he sailed down the Yangtze River to Nanjing, studied with a Taoist master, and entered into a brief marriage with the daughter of a local official in Yunmeng. She evidently left him and took the children because he had not secured a government position as she hoped and instead had dedicated himself to wine and song. In the Imperial Court In his wandering years, Li Po had befriended the Taoist scholar Wu Yun, who praised Li Po so highly to the emperor that he was invited to the court in Changââ¬â¢an in 742. There he made such an impression that he was dubbed ââ¬Å"the Immortal banished from heavenâ⬠and given a post translating and providing poetry for the emperor. He participated in the court revels, wrote a number of poems about events in court, and was renowned for his literary performances. But he was often drunk and outspoken and not at all suited to the strictures and the delicate hierarchies of court life. In 744 he was banished from court and went back to his wandering life. War and Exile After leaving Changââ¬â¢an, Li Po formally became a Taoist and in 744 he met his great poetic counterpart and rival, Tu Fu, who said the two were like brothers and slept together under a single cover. In 756, Li Po was mixed up in the political upheaval of the An Lushan Rebellion and was captured and sentenced to death for his involvement. A military officer whom he had saved from court-martial many years before and who was by now a powerful general intervened and Li Po was instead banished to the far southwestern interior of China. He wandered slowly toward his exile, writing poems along the way, and in the end was pardoned before he got there. Li Poââ¬â¢s Death and Legacy Legend has it that Li Po died embracing the moonââ¬âlate at night, drunk, in a canoe out on the river, he caught sight of the moonââ¬â¢s reflection, leaped in, and fell into the watery depths. Scholars, however, believe he died from cirrhosis of the liver or from mercury poisoning that resulted from Taoist longevity elixirs. Author of 100,000 poems, he was a nobody in a class-bound Confucian society and lived the wild poetââ¬â¢s life long before the Romantics. About 1,100 of his poems are still in existence. canmetirac1971http://www.blogger.com/profile/08198283308070975593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167480204785288457.post-30731063245207876462019-12-22T22:19:00.001-08:002019-12-22T22:19:04.381-08:00Benefits For Therapeutic Patients With Aat ( Animal... ââ¬Å"Animals are such agreeable friends- they ask no questions, they pass no criticismsâ⬠(George Eliot) for that reason they are the future of therapy. Constable made all the efforts towards rebellion against the cultures of the artists in the application of imagination for the purpose of representation of their art in favor of nature. He stresses the need to forget having seen any picture in the process of making a sketch. We will write a custom essay sample on According to Cormack or any similar topic only for you Order Now His studies are based on the spot of action in contrast to following any formula. According to Cormack, ââ¬Å"The world is wideâ⬠, no two days are similar, nor even two hours; neither were there ever two leaves of a tree alike since the creation of all the world; and the genuine productions of art, like those of nature, are all distinct from each other.â⬠(Cormack, 2006). à In comparison to the work of Turner, he had a less extensive range as well as aspirations. The most suitable definition of Constable is a ââ¬Ënaturalistââ¬â¢ which through his correspondence, he has successfully as so. However, the stylistic variety of Constable is marred with instability with regard to the perception of the constituent of nature. Further the sites intimately known to him have been the focus of his paintings. There is no strict uniqueness of the indisputable approach of Constable in as far as the concern of the local scenery is concerned. This is evidenced by the participation of the contemporary artist of the Norwich as well as the conformation to the work of Thomas Christopher, who is an artist of 1777-1843 (Fleming-Williams, 2006). The common practice is the application of oil to sketch from nature. Turner has made his contribution to in the establishment of a landscape to represent a historical painting although he widely disputes the idea. The single mindedness of Constable is responsible for the portrayal of site of limited range in a unique way producing unprecedented oil sketching of a brilliance capacity (Fraser, 2006). On the other hand, Turner has a subjective reflection that surpasses far beyond the romantic contemporaries that he possesses with the capacity to foreshadow an image in dissolution in a painting of the 20th century. According to Bailey, the best description of the work of Turner is ââ¬Å"airy vision painted with tinted steamâ⬠(Bailey, 2007). As has been visualized in the Slave Ship in an instance that a description is offered of the sharks following the slave ship in reaction to a storm. The sharks react to the scent crowds that steam due to rank diseases as well as death. There is also an existence of a realistic event involving a slave ship captain dumping human cargo in the sea as result of a disease outbreak below decks. The work of Turner has a clear demonstration of romanticism elements through the employment of disjoint diagonals. The consequence is composition fragmentation (Kelder, 2000). Turner, the terrific creator had the potential for the application of unique invention for the purpose of liberating color from line definition for the purpose of the expression of the natural forces for the purpose of its unity to the stirring response of the artists. This leads to uniting emotions reality to the color reality. Used as an abstract media, the work of Turner was associated with unpredictable effects. This is seen in the nature of ultimate painting element evident in his innovations due to the emotive as well as aesthetic strength of his application of pure color (Leslie, 2005). The show took place in Limestone, Maine, on Loring Air Force Base. We left around 11 a.m. somewhat prepared for the long haul ahead of us. VW busses and other cars adorned with various Phish stickers whizzed by us. An aura of anticipation hung over the Phishheads as they inched their way down the abandoned roads toward their destination. After arriving and setting up our tents, my friends and I felt the intense need to wander around the heavily occupied base. It was a small city of 65,000 different people. Throngs of hippies clothed in colorful patchworks filled the streets of the base. After wandering for a couple of hours, we climbed into our tents to rest for the long day ahead. The sun creeped up sending its heavy rays to penetrate our tent. I quickly dressed and again began to wander the base, this time alone. I marveled at the sleepy faces bent over campfire stoves cookng breakfast foods to sell to the many other fans. I was greeted with many smiles and offers. Once fully awakened I gathered my friends to head for the show. Lost in a maze of color swirls and dazed concertgoers, we slowly filed down the main drag toward the stage where Phish would be playing starting at 4:00. Swarms of people lined up to wave their neon wristbands for the looming security guards. After much pushing and shoving we found a spot to relax and enjoy the show. Phish opened up with a jamming Chalkdust Torture that got the crowd pumped. They played until 6:00, then took a two-hour break. They hit off the second set with a popular tune, Cavern. At the end of long Bathtub Gin, the sky was set aflame with sprays of fireworks. After a long day of partying and dancing, the fans once again massed together to head back to their sites. The second day the weather was less foggy and chilly. Just as Phish opened up with their first set, the clouds parted and the sun emerged, evoking cheers from the crowd. Phish played even better than the day before. Trey talked to the crowd as if they were long lost friends and Fishman gave us his silly grin. With new tunes such as Ghost and old ones like Makasupa Policeman they kept the crowd grooving until nightfall. With night, the mood changed with a trippy version of 2001 and a crazy Bathtub Gin. After the entire crowd had peaked, Phish began to slow it down and Trey spoke to the crowd again. Each day the thousands of fans had taken part in painting and designing various pieces of wood; the wood had then been constructed into a tall tower that loomed over the crowd. While Fishman jammed on the guitar, Trey took a spraypaint bottle to the stage. Taking turns, the members of Phish adorned the stage with intricate designs. Trey then took a large piece of the wood with Phishs art on it and passed it to the crowd. They carefully passed it through the flock of people to the tower of art and with the help of security, it was fastened on to the tower. The art of both the fans and the group had emerged; it was a tribal experience. Suddenly, out of nowhere emerged a blazing flame. The flame spread to the tower and the crowd watched in sheer amazement as the tower went up in flames. It was a good-bye to the weekend. The party was over and the exhausted fans began to start their trek back to daily life and existence. canmetirac1971http://www.blogger.com/profile/08198283308070975593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167480204785288457.post-16283567829967630412019-11-29T04:17:00.001-08:002019-11-29T04:17:03.285-08:00U.S Postal Service As a Monopoly Essay Example For Students U.S Postal Service As a Monopoly Essay In the United States economy most markets can be classified into fourdifferent markets structures. But, each and every market in the United Statesis completely unique from the others. Generally the best type of marketstructure for the general public is per-fect competition because it creates thelowest possible price for the public. There are some exceptions were perfectcompetition isnt the best choice for the public on account of various reasons. The United States Postal Service is one of them and since the Postal Service isa monopoly, it is its own market. This paper will discuss the budget dilemmasthat the postal service has faced for the past twenty years and if it is in thebest interest of the economy for the United States Postal Service to continue asa monopoly. The first time there was talk of privatizing the Postal Service wasin1979 when the Postal Service was losing vast amounts of money in the long run. We will write a custom essay on U.S Postal Service As a Monopoly specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now But since the Postal Service is a necessity for America, the government had tosubsidize the service in order for it to continue in operation. In 1979 theUnited States Postal Service had a cash flow of $22.5 Billion and wasadditionally receiving $176 million from investing(#1, Intro). Even with thisadded revenue the Postal Service was still greatly under funded on its own (#1,Intro). During this time it was discussed to privatize the postal service andintroduce competition because of the extreme losses that the service wasexperiencing. A positive argument for privatizing the Postal Service was withnumerous competitors in the market there would be more efficiency and the publicwould receive lower prices. But this would also increase the usage of resources, for example airplanes and cars. One of the problems the Post Office had was itsreceipts from consumer purchases that were submitted the next day after thetransaction (#1, i). If the receipts were submitted earlier the postal servicewo uld receive more money because they could invest that money sooner (#1, i). Another way the Postal Service could increased profits was by competitivelyselecting banks that would give them higher interest rates and such (#1, ii). Probably the most relevant and final way to improve the budget of the PostalService is to improve the bookkeeping poli-cies and banking techniques (#1, ii). Not only did the Post Service propose to increase profits but they alsoproposed to cut costs in a number of ways. There were three methods that wereproposed in 1946 for the protection of salaries that no longer exists (#2,Intro). These have to do with the rural mail carriers. Under this antiquatedmethod of delivering mail the Postal Service was los-ing money to any mail thatwent to rural areas (#2, i) There are 48,000 mail carriers that deliver mailto millions of families that are considered to be living in rural settings; thiscosts the postal Service 858 million dollars a year (#2, i). This is a fairlyeasy problem to fix considering how much money is being lost. It was proposedthat money loss could be significantly cut down if the Postal Service correctedthe following problems. The rural mail carriers were assigned a certain amountof time to deliver to a specific rural area, this method was out of date andbecause of this the carriers have free time for which they got paid for (#2, i i). The next problem was that other mail routes based pay on how many miles theroute covered, so the carriers were getting paid by the mile (#2, iii). Withthis problem fixed the Postal Service could saved 26.8 million a year (#2, iii). .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0 , .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0 .postImageUrl , .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0 , .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0:hover , .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0:visited , .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0:active { border:0!important; } .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0:active , .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0 .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub5d1bab83affc8e092074715f5cba0b0:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Confederate States Of America EssayThere was also an hourly rate that was in effect which indirectly promotedinefficient service (#2, iii). A stop to this could have saved the PostalService $255,000 a year (#2, iii). From the num-bers mentioned above, it can beseen why the United States Postal Service was losing so much money. These problems did indeed eventually did get solved over the pastfifteen years and now the Postal Service is making record breaking profits. Nowin the first quarter of the fiscal year 1996 the Postal Service already has anet income of $1.2 billion (#3, 1). Now not only is the Postal Service justbreaking even, but they are also making a profit. On top of that, the 1.2billion dollar figure is 115 billion dollars better then the quarterly forecastpredicted (#3,1). It is incredible that they are not only making a reasonableprofit but it is increasing over the years. The Postal Service is also nowreducing debts. An example of this is when the Postal Service redeemed a 1.5billion dollar loan two years in advance which will save them 22 million dollarsof interest in the next two years (#3,1). The Postal Service isnt stopping with the revenue that it is receivingnow. The Postal Service is planning to increase its international revenues of$1.2 billion by twice the amount in the next five years and ten-fold by the year2005 (#5, 1). The Postal Service is continually working to streamline theiroperations for the future that they are now run-ning. The Postal Service iscontinualy looking to cut back on borrowing money. All of the recent financialborrowing has been through the Federal Financing Bank, but the Postal Servicenow is looking into outside sources, such as bonds in the public markets (#5, 2). Business are starting to get jealous of the Postal Service because ofthe great prof-its it is experiencing. The Postal Service is now making a majorimpact on the United States Economy (#6, 1). Business are pointing out that in1995 the Postal Service had records of $1.8 billion in net income and a 1.7billion dollar debt reduction (#6, 1). The $54 billion revenue that the PostalService is bringing in would put them in 12th place on the Fortune 500 list and33rd on the Fortune Global 500, with the worlds largest corpora-tions (#6,1). Arecent study showed that domestic direct mail sales were at $333 billion in theyear 1994 (#6,1). This figure is expected to reach over $500 billion by theyear 2000 (#6,1)It can be seen throughout this paper how the United States PostalService in-creased profits and does not have to borrow as much money as before. It seems that the Postal Service is doing just fine while it is a monopoly. Butthere are still two arguments for and against the Postal Service continuing toremain a monopoly. On one side compe-tition is thought to make industries inthe market more efficient and practice more innova-tive (#4, 1). But on theother hand the competition is also thought to lead to a wide-spread creamskimming, with the postal service left only the high-cost, unprofitable mar-kets(#4, 1). So who is to know which market would be better for the American econ-omy as far as the Postal Service goes. But it is speculated if the UnitedStates Postal Service does keep increasing its profits over the years, maybe itwill be privatized. Bibliography1) United States. Corporate social responsibility generates sustained value for the betterment of society. Siemens is a future-oriented company which believes in sustainable development and responsibilities towards the society and has undergone out of the way to fulfill its commitment to the welfare of people, earth and the business. Sustainable development is beautifully explained as ââ¬Å"Meeting present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needsâ⬠(Grayson et. al 2012). Sustainability is seen as the eco-development approach for the preservation of resources. Moreover, social responsibility is an obligation to assume corporate duties for the welfare of society (Ebner & Baumgartner 2006). Seeking economic benefits stays as the mission for the existence of any business. However, CSR provides societal development which in directly supports the motive of the business. By long-term value creation for the society, businesses fulfill their duty as a member and contribute to the growth of the firm. Proponents of sustainable development suggest that resources are scarce so sustainable use is crucial for growth otherwise the quality of life will worsen (Blewitt 2008). For instance, if a tree is slashed without planting another one, this will eventually turn a forest into a desert. The issue of sustainability has become even more challenging with the massive growth in population because it will raise the consumption and demand for resources. Sustainability involves a firm commitment towards needs of the poor along with economic and social improvement and also realizing the limited nature of resources. Corporate Social Responsibility is an ethicalà obligation to the community at large. canmetirac1971http://www.blogger.com/profile/08198283308070975593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167480204785288457.post-68893070289392964822019-11-18T15:32:00.001-08:002019-11-18T15:32:04.022-08:00Case Study 1 Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 wordsCase Study 1 - Assignment Example This paper will examine how ideas can be extended to businesses, and marketing strategies that attract consumers to products. Through virtual sales representatives, the Laguna Beach experiment was keen to attract people to brands. Some well-known brands use virtual representation to promote their products and services. Once customers get to such informative stages, they are keener as to what an organization is promoting through such means. Virtually, many people are attracted to the ideas presented. Young people get to experience the new technology and are fascinated. The personal level appears as one gets to a local area where many people go to socialise and have fun. This is at the beach where it is an everyday occurrence to have people from diverse regions showing up to enjoy themselves (Klaassen, 2007). The Bank of America from the Internet reached out to older women with children that did not have time to get to the bank. This personal touch indicated that women could open new accounts from the internet, and still have time with their children. What the bank decided to do was a step in attracting more clients, and retaining the ones they had initially. By rounding off the customersââ¬â¢ savings to the nearest dollar, they were guaranteed customer loyalty, and the emergence of a new base of clients (Ante, 2006). Through another outreach program, the bank called on its customers to participate in some activity that could help them find loose change. Through this program, the bank claimed enormous success and this personal venture added to their credibility. Business buyers can use such strategies to attract clients. One strategy that a business buyer can use is the constant use of the internet to attract clientele. This strategy is usually vital in shaping a business venture. The technological age is growing and expanding at a rapid speed (Cunningham, 1995). This implies that almost everyone in the world canmetirac1971http://www.blogger.com/profile/08198283308070975593noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4167480204785288457.post-33043291583802702762019-11-16T04:04:00.001-08:002019-11-16T04:04:04.038-08:00Multimedia Using Adobe After Effects Computer Science EssayMultimedia Using Adobe After Effects Computer Science Essay Increase in technology making wider use of multimedia and its applications. For a good presentation multimedia is used to present in very effective and innovative way. Every internet technology makes use of this multimedia. To bring a good output in any broadcasting medias multimedia is used. In general the term multimedia has many definitions; each author denotes it in their own ways. According to J Grimes it is The combination of two or more media(J Grimes,1998). Media can be anything like audio, video, graphics, images, text etc. Multimedia is in the form of global hierarchical system, the software of this applications provides direct communication to their users. Multimedia is used not only in internet but also in intranet like LAN (Local Area Networks). To get the information or to access the remote systems or servers the request or information must pass through multimedia to the networks. Because before sending the data to the network the media files should be compressed with the help of multimedia to avoid the communication delay. At the receiving end some of the constraints like delay, jitter will be used for the effective transmission of audio and video files. This is the reason why communications network technologies are increasing rapidly. To produce an effective animation with good effects multimedia and its applications are widely used. To produce good effects there are many versions and softwares available in the market. Of them Adobe After Effects is the one which produces affective result (CH Wu, 2009). The earlier version of After effects is CoSA which came in January 1993 supports only MAC (Adobe, 2008). From then to till now many versions were evolved with adding extra features to the existing. Some emerged versions supports only MAC systems some are compatible with WINDOWS operating system; some are with command prompt like UNIX and LINUX. There are also versions which also support both the operating systems. The Prior version of CoSA was later in 1994 attained by the Adobe Company (Adobe, 2008). From then, that brand released many versions including Page Maker and Adobe After Effects. The primary use of Adobe After effects is to create motion graphics and visual effects, which allows user to alter, animate and composite media in 2D and 3D space with its various built-in tools and plug-ins. After effects and some NLEs (Non Linear Editing systems) are layer oriented this means each and every object media has its own individual tracks. In contrast this also has track oriented system which means all media objects fall in to same track without overlapping each other. This makes editing easier and can comprise with less efforts. There are different software packages available to support not only small volumes of media objects, but also support large volumes of data. The better suited software for large volume data is Appleshake. Using Shy switch adobe After effects will oppose the clutter selectively by hiding the layers (Adobe, 2008). The main interface consists of several panels of them the three most important are Project Panel, Composition Panel and Timeline Panel. The Project panel acts as interface to import stills, audio and video footage items. The footage items used here are in the time line panel, where timing and layer order can be adjusted. In composition panel the items visible at the current time marker are displayed. This report starts by giving a brief knowledge about the multimedia and its applications, Adobe After effects. Later discusses about the existing features in After effects and future advancements for the same. Finally the summary includes. 2. LITERATURE REVIEW To support each and every common individual need multimedia is used. So, todays globalised world is known as The world of Multimedia(Slawson, 1993). The features of multimedia are used not only for creation of movies or for animation with good effects. This is also used in many organisations for communicating over the networks. As electronic process for teaching technologies is becoming more expensive, an interactive process of learning method was introduced through multimedia (Slawson, 1993). Interactive learning multimedia is treated as process, rather than the technology which always provides potential knowledge for the updated technologies (Slawson, 1993). To create such classes in interactive and effective way Adobe after effects is used. Adobe is used to create, edit and alter the motion graphics for DVD, video, Film etc. The latest versions of Adobe has many more extra features which gives good composting and resulting in a blockbuster results. Though multimedia is expensive t o learn, the significance of it is increasing day by day because of its enormous effects and capability. So many people are showing interest towards learning the same. To become a multimedia professional no prior qualifications are required. There are no age or gender constraints, so anyone can become professional in this at anytime. Innovation of ideas is important here because to edit an existing graphical image or to create new motion picture creativity is important. Composting software packages like Apple shake are used to create a node or workflow process. Each package has its own importance the importance of those and its features will be discussed in detail in the coming sections. Multimedia In todays world the term multimedia is used very often. Till now there is no standard definition of multimedia each author describes it in their own convenient way (B Furht, 1998). The term media refers to a form of human interaction that is amenable to computer capture processing such as audio, video, graphics, text, images etc and the term multi refers to the combination of the media present in a single application( B Furht, 1998). Multimedia Compression and Technologies Standards There are many widely accepted technologies in the world of multimedia, every day many new technologies are emerging in to the market. So, the importance of products changes from day to day life. But all emerged and existing products are based on some standards which are used for compression. Let us now discuss in brief about some of those standards and products like Quick Time player, Video for Windows, Indeo [1] ( Intel Video) (CH Wu, 2009). There are also some new and basic standards like ISO (International Standard Organisation) and MHEG (Multimedia and Hypermedia Information Coding Expert Group) (CH Wu, 2009). Basing on these standards the compression techniques follows. 2.1.1(A) Quick Time Player Quick Time is a basic technology developed by Apple Computers (CH Wu, 2009). The format of this media is compatible with almost all Operating systems like Linux, Windows (NT/95/XP/7) and for all apple computers (CH Wu, 2009). This technology is the most commonly accepted mass storage for multimedia communications. The media format of this supports MPEG (Motion Picture Expert Group) which is an ISO- standard, Indeo (Intel Video). This also supports the photo CD format for Kodaks and MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) (CH Wu, 2009). The main intention behind developing this technology is such that it can be used by anyone without any charge. So it is a trusted player which can be easily downloaded from the internet with free of cost. 2.1.1 (B) Video for Windows The technology Video for Windows (VFW) was developed by Microsoft especially for Windows environment (95/NT/XP). After this technology Active Movie emerged with in no time this replaced VFW and designed in such a way that it supports the VFW technology (CH Wu, 2009).Then after multimedia world has experienced an excellent technology which not only supports video but also audio files and that file is AVI( Audio Video Interleave). These file formats play back with a small size of 320240 pixels (quarter VGA screen) using the software. If the processor is of Intel versions it plays with the size of 640480 pixels (quarter VGA screen) because Intel computer can able to cope up with good graphics accelerator by using run length encoding method to compress the information(CH Wu, 2009). In addition to it, this also supports player formats like quick time and Indeo by using video compression algorithms. 2.1.1 (C) Indeo (Intel Video) The basic intention behind developing this product is not only to play back audio and video files, but also to store it on a personal Computer (PC). So this was originally developed by the David Samoff research Center for the conversion of NTSC (National Television System Committee) analog signal in to digital video signal (CH Wu, 2009). The software of this may be a choice for compression in Quick time and Video for Windows. The major comparison among the above two technologies and Indeo product is Quick time and VFW will be compressed by the software and hardware will be used for Indeo which achieves higher frame rate with better resolutions. For compression of Indeo through hardware the requirements are a PC size card using DVI (Digital Video Interface) technology which is based on 1750 chipset of Intel (CH Wu, 2009). Indeo uses the Compression technique called Vector Quantization with run length coding in the ratio of 160:1. Video Conferencing is the major application of Indeo wh ich can store minimum of 70 minutes video in a CD-ROM. Based on Video Conferencing application Intel has launched one more product named PCWG (Personal Conferencing Work Group). The compression technique used here is software instead of hardware to cope up with reasonable cost. Intel has developed many products based on different standards. As Indeo is based on Vector Quantization it works much faster than MPEG (Motion Picture Expert Group) and H.261.This is an ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union- Telecommunication) Video Conferencing standard based on DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) (CH Wu, 2009). 2.1.1 (D) MHEG (Multimedia and Hypermedia Information Coding Expert Group) To control the presentations of multimedia and hypermedia MHEG is a standard prepared by ISO for a set of object classes. To support the multi vendor client or server environment MHEG-5 technique was introduced (CH WU, 2009). Vendors who developed applications in this environment have feasibility that application can be developed once and later information can be interchangeable according to the end user (client/vendor) environment. MHEG has additional multimedia handling capabilities like it is used for representation between different computers and compatible with all typ0e of OS, has 3 different spatial coordinates compared to HTML (Hypertext Markup language). This is good at time synchronisation. ARMIDA service which is a product prototype developed for video conferencing (CH WU, 2009). COMPRESSION STANDARDS There are many widely accepted compression standards like GIF (Graphical Information Format) which is mostly used for internet services and ISO (International standard Organization) standard for high quality of delivery. This report illustrates about the two major ISO compression standards which are accepted worldwide. 2.1.2(A) JPEG (Joint Picture Expert Group) This standard is used for compressing and decompressing the colour or gray scale images which was set by ISO standard. JPEG is used for compressing the still pictures like images, graphics, colour FAX, audio graphical conference, desktop publishing etc. The standards of JPEG follow four coding processes. Base Line System: This is a simple and efficient system which is suitable for many of the applications. To encode the data it uses sequential coding which means data passes in a single through which produces 8 bit resolution for each input (CH WU, 2009). Extended System: The extended system improves the quality of base line system by producing 12 resolution bits. For encoding the data is uses arithmetic coding by progressive build-up. This progresses low frequency blurred image to higher frequency quality image and successive approximation for most significant to least significant bits (CH Wu, 2009). Progressive build-up is suitable for communication sensitive applications. Arithmetic encoding compresses almost 5-10% better when compared with Huffman coding. Hierarchical encoding method: The name itself indicates it is hierarchical, so it build-up the data from low to high. This means it follows the pyramid shape model form low pixels to high pixels. It uses DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) encoding method for comparison between current and succeeding frame (CH Wu, 2009). This supports both 8 and 12 bit resolutions. Lossless Method: This is widely used in medical applications where exact reconstruction of the image is required. Each pixels digital value can be 2 or 16 bits. It supports sequential encoding and also user has a choice of selecting encoding methods either arithmetic or Huffman coding (CH Wu, 2009). This does not make use of DCT. Fig 1: Block Diagram of JPEG compression scheme [http://www.design-reuse.com/articles/17954/jpeg-application-engine.html] 2.1.2(B) MPEG (Motion Picture Expert Group) The MPEG standard was developed by the ISO/ JTC1/SC29/ WG11 for compressing motion pictures in contrast to JPEG which is used for still images (CH Wu, 2009). MPEG standards specify and concentrate on decoding process with bit syntax format. It leaves a separate space for encoding process. This has two standards MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 in addition to this there is one more standard which is under progress MPEG-4. Let us discuss in brief about the same. MPEG-1: For compressing video on digital storage like CD-ROM MPEG-1 is used (CH Wu, 2009). In storage media the compression is rate about 1 to 1.5 Mbps (Mega bit per second) and in communication networks its range is about 6 to 9 with compression ratio of approximately 130:1. MPEG-2: In addition to the video compression on media it also used for compressing interlaced digital video in cable, satellite TV, HDTV (High Definition TV), High- quality digital storage media and video service through communications with range of [6-9]. The compression ratio of this is 30-100:1 (CH Wu, 2009). MPEG-4: This is a long term project which was started in 1993 with the expected completion year as 1998 (CH Wu, 2009). This sets for all type of applications and has advanced coding method. It has got the following features in addition to the compression potential. Content based scalability and error prone environments have universal access capabilities by providing good robustness. Content based interactivity for multimedia access, manipulation and bit-stream editing (CH Wu, 2009). In addition to this it has coding methods like hybrid natural and synthetic methods with improved random access which is temporary. In MPEG-4 MSDL ( MPEG-4 Syntactic Description Language ) was introduced to describe the flexibility of bit stream structure, configuring, decoding of the program, selecting, describing, editing, and downloading. MSDL include tools, profiles and algorithms. Profile may be a single or combinations of one or more algorithms. Algorithm is a collection of tools for providing one or more functionality. Tools are simple and basic technique (CH Wu, 2009). Syntax of MSDL layer FLEX 0 This is used in switching between pre-defined algorithms like MPEG-1, MPEG-2, JPEG, etc (CH Wu, 2009). FLEX 1 This syntax is for configuring decoders using standard tools like DCT and Huffman coding (CH Wu, 2009). FLEX 2 used for tool updating and downloading (CH Wu, 2009). Fig 2: Block Diagram of MPEG encoder [http://www.altera.com.cn/end-markets/broadcast/delivery/encoder/bro-encoder.html] Multimedia Applications Now-a-days we can find the use of multimedia in not only media, entertainment and arts field but also in almost all places and in all services like hospitals, government organisations. Its also used in the field of education departments like physics, mathematics etc. The following are some of the important applications of multimedia. Commercial Purpose Creativity is most widely useful in these areas because for doing any type of business a good popularity is vital. For launching a product a good advertisement is necessary where in which creativity should be used here to deal with. Education To make the classes interactively for the students multimedia is used by giving SFX and VFX effects. Entertainment Multimedia is basically developed for this field where different types of media are included. Used to create animation movies, multimedia games. Many video games include multimedia techniques which are a good time pass and in addition to it this improves the knowledge of the player. Multimedia games can be available through online to play or it can also be obtained through CDs. In Mathematical and Scientific field Multimedia has extensive range of use in the research field. Because after creation of a particular molecule or a single substance using multimedia that molecule will be studied by enlarging the size or increasing the properties of it. In this way multimedia will also be used in the field of calculations. For creation of any visual or animation graphics the most commonly used effects are special effects popularly known as SFX and visual effects named as VFX. To edit these there are many editing softwares available of them the most popular editing software is Adobe After Effects which commonly known as AE. Adobe After Effects (AE) Adobe After effects is mainly used for workflow process management for colour processing. To achieve a perfect quality of colour blended emotions or graphics to the images AE is used. The currently used software for editing in version of AE is AECS5. Prior to this there are many previous versions which are used for colour blending process. The basic version of Adobe is CoSA and the code name for it is egg in the year of 1993 in January (Adobe, 2008). The features of this are mask with layered compositing, effects, keyframes, transforms (Adobe, 2008). In the same year but in the month of May one more version of it is released but with extended features. Both versions of these CoSA1.0 and 1.1 support MAC operating system (Adobe, 2008). From then to till now there have been many technologies and versions evolved. The report concentrates on AE and its versions. Adobe After Effects CS5 To succeed in todays media culture visual richness and outstanding performance is required which can be obtained through CS5. Its new 64-bit native support helps most of the computers to work more efficiently with complex projects like HD, 2k and 4K. A broad range of innovative features from the new roto brush allows for creating the stream line of workflow. This enables to create ordinary graphics in to extra ordinary graphics which results in blockbuster effects while delivering the work with variety of screens. 2.3.1(A) Features of CS5 64-bit performance support: To craft complex 3D scenes it works flexibly with all types of available RAM and different types of processors (Adobe, 2008). It is easy to work on large frames, camera moves, preview of long deep layered composites, a single layer can be viewed in to different types of output format. The four colour channels of this are red, blue, green, alpha. Fig 3: 64-bit native support [http://www.attotech.com/solutions/Adobe/] Format memory requirements standard definition 720486 pixels x 4 color channels* x 8 bpc =1.33 megabytes/frame10 seconds @ 29.97 fps = 398.6MB (Adobe, 2008) high definition 19201080 pixels x 4 color channels* x 16 bpc =15.82 megabytes/frame10 seconds @ 23.976 fps = 3.7GB (Adobe, 2008). Digital cinema 40962304 pixels x 4 color channels* x 32 bpc =144 megabytes/frame10 seconds @ 24 fps =33.75GB (Adobe, 2008). Visual Innovation: After Effects CS5 includes Mocha for After Effects CS5 v2 with the Mocha Shape plug-in, Color Finesse 3, and Digieffects FreeForm (Adobe, 2008). As these are third party plug-ins included with CS5 the user interface was installed in only English language. Efficient Composition: Performs composite productions very faster with maximum bit depth rate because of the new roto brush tool. There is a new support for colour LUTs (Look Up Table) and other breakthroughs. Production of pipelines was excellent and in complex digital workflow productions good support of XMP metadata is important.CS5 completely uses innovation of technology everywhere (Adobe, 2008). Deliver everywhere: Work with a wider range of media types-now including AVC-Intra and expanded RED camera support-and render the final results in formats from mobile media to feature films at maximum bit depth and resolution, using industry-unique colour management and new custom Colour Look-Up Table (LUT) support to help ensure accurate results across a variety of delivery platforms (Adobe, 2008). The Adobe After effects not only works well in Windows environment but also it is compatible also with MAC and can produce good result. The Roto brush tool is a very powerful tool which separates foreground and background and chooses which environment and position of scale sets to fix the image. If drawing a position of image is unsure then positioning an outline on the picture with roto brush gives good result. The digieffects which is a free from effects which gives 3D modelling effects. 3. RESEARCH In multimedia applications the effects used are like SFX and VFX to edit this Adobe after effects are used. The following are the key point which I found in my research on this topic. Adobe After Effects is an application which is used for 3D Compositing and as well as visual effects. It is one of the most top10 compositing software. Well coming to software, there are more drawbacks on that compare to newer versions. Newer application is more user friendly and more reliable compare to previous versions. It supports all types of major media formats for both import and export. In newer version i.e., After Effects CS5, it only supports 64bit Os. So application can take more memory from Os which support up to 64GB of memory. So that huge amount of data can be accessed through local HDD (Hard Disk Drive) and also from network. The speed of the drive can be experienced by using 1Gbps of LAN. But in this the main issue is multitask cannot be performed. This means at a time only application can be run and processed. Due to this backlog, working on more files at a time is not possible so the process becomes time consuming one. The drawback of this issue can be overcome by installing the application and plugins which we used in more than one application. But it takes 2-3Hrs of time moreover it is a time consuming program. In addition to it one user cant work on multiple projects/files at a time. 4. PROPOSED SOLUTION To overcome the delay process, there is a trick which should be followed to open multiple applications. The trick is as follows. I.e., just add the letter -M after the path at target tab. The image is as follows. Using this script multiple applications can be opened at a time which works faster and also save the time depending on the configuration of the user machine. If the machine is of good configuration a very good quality of speed can be experienced. Fig4:Explanation of Multi Application 4.1 ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES Adobe After Effects CS5 boost the performance and results in a high quality of production. Its features like roto brush tool used to create and separate foreground and background images without much time. Its third party plug-ins increases robustness and efficiency of the program. Its 64-bit native support makes the process compatible with all type of processors. Use good colour blending and movie rendering techniques which gives good effects with innovation of ideas. This also supports auto key frame modes and provides flexibility to customer or client for choosing his own colour Look Up Tables (LUT). In any product there are not only advantages but also we can find disadvantages. This paragraph discusses all about the disadvantages of CS5. For installing CS5 the OS should support some features like OSx10.5.7 (Adobe, 2008). As this supports 64-bit native support every third party plug-in of it should be upgraded to the same. This is not only time taking process but also costly process. CS5 is not compatible with older versions so every time backward version like CS4 must be installed in addition to the CS5. This makes to work on the current projects without difficulty. Installing on a single PC two or more versions decreases the speed of the processor as older versions works only on 32-bit applications. For AE lights and other 3D layers there is no real interaction of 3D. So the lights and 3D layers should be applied separately in Photoshop this is another important drawback which should be considered. 5. CONCLUSION This report describes briefly about the multimedia and its applications. A very clear and basic explanation about working flow of Adobe After Effects and its current version CS5 which is popularly known as AECS5. This paper also discusses about the problem of opening multi applications at a time and provided the solution for the same. The detailed explanation about the roto brush tool and its importance is provided. This research has clearly explained the merits and demerits of AE (AE CS5). As the technology has good advancements in day to day life the long term project which is still in progress should come out with good advancements. The future advancements of this technology can be upgrading the software with built in lights and 3D effects with good real 3D interaction. CS5 must be compatible with backward versions of CS like CS4 and Cs3. In addition to this there can be many future advancements based on the technology developed. The first themeis enduring love ended only by mortality. The second, the effects of war on a manââ¬â¢s ideals and morals, things which people can and do believe during war. The last and most important theme is Frederic Henryââ¬â¢s disillusionment. à à à à à Hemingway shows that love can persevere in a world ruined with war. Frederic is not looking for love, and when Rinaldi introduces him to Catherine Barkley, he thinks of her as merely a sexual conquest. Henry considers his flirting with Catherine ââ¬Å"like moves in a chess game.â⬠. Henry thinks Catherine is a little bit crazy, and both admit they are acting. At the front, Henry realizes he is lonely without her and misses her. But it is not until he meets her, after he is wounded and sent to an American hospital, that he realizes he loves her. Henry admits he didnââ¬â¢t want to fall in love with her, but even so he has. Their love continues to grow during his stay at the hospital. Their relationship is unusual since they rarely argue.
